And I’m On My Knees, Looking For The Answer…
…are we human, or are we dancer?
If you had seen me out on Saturday night I daresay you wouldn’t have thought I was either a human or a dancer if you went by some of the moves I was pulling – still, I had fun and that’s what’s important! Going on the bumper cars at 3am after the club was also entertaining…the things I find myself doing!
Anyway, before I get caught up in my usual ramblings, please allow me to take this opportunity to wish you all a (belated) very Merry Christmas, and a prosperous and successful New Year.
I feel I should mention that I now have a picture on my About Me page so you can see the face behind the text. This is mostly due to Gary Simpson insisting I put a picture online, so thanks for that!
For those of you that made the coaching module 4 recently, you will have seen me on Twitter as Alex kindly used me as an example. Thanks Alex for making me infamous!!
If you’re new to Twitter and you would like to follow me on there as well then click here
I have a couple of questions, hence the title to this post.
This might only be applicable to the UK, so sorry if it excludes anyone! USB broadband dongles for the internet. Any recommendations / tales of woe / thoughts? How much usage is 3GB a month? Could I get into the webinars etc with it?
Big thanks go to Tommy McLaughlin and my brother (no, not part of this coaching programme) – a few of you pointed out that the footer of my blog was going to cause me problems, so Tommy and my bro looked into this for me. Turns out that it’s a fixed image at the bottom – the problem is that the html text for the footer is encoded so I can’t get in to delete the Blogroll part or the Archives part of my footer. So if anyone can de-code it, or write some html that I could use to replace the existing structure then that would be brilliant – I don’t even know whether that can be done! But I like this theme, so I don’t want to lose it!
Trust me to get something that doesn’t like doing as it’s told – now, who could that be like I wonder…!
Also, Aweber – I have seen that at the bottom of the automated emails, it usually includes a postal address. I rent my current property, so do I have to include the address in there as part of signing up to Aweber? Not sure my tenancy agreement would allow such things?
I also have a couple of shout-outs to people – if you’re anything like me then ‘disorganised chaos’ may be a term that rings true with you. If that is the case then I strongly suggest you pop over to the Gaz-Man’s blog and download his free Action Planner.
Time & Task Management could well be the thing that determines your success online, so go get your copy now!
Also, Harry Harris is putting together a Class of 2008 video for us Fortunate 500, so to be included click here and follow Harry’s very simple instructions.
Not only that, but The Ambassador has got a freebie for us all – pop over to this post on his blog, and grab it while you can.
To top things off, Dan Briffa is also offering some free software; this is for creating ebook covers.
So now, none of us have any excuses:
1) We have Mad Max Gaz-Man (read his blog for the background to this name!) getting us organised and focused with his brilliant Action Planner
2) We have Harry Harris, the Star Wars Guru himself, making a video of us all and therefore making us all accountable in this journey
3) We have The Ambassador Dean Holland (check this blog post and read my comment to see why I’m calling him that!) giving us free software to convert files to PDF
4) And then we have Dan Briffa giving us free software to create covers for our ebooks.
5) We also have Garry Parkes creating a superb newsletter – I highly recommend you pop over to his site as well and sign up for it – all free of course!
I know there are lots of other offers out there at the moment, and I’m sorry if I haven’t got round to your blog to spread my random ramblings yet. Would you believe I’ve spent the majority of Christmas Day and Boxing Day holed up in bed with a stinking cold?! I find that rude – the one time I stop working, I get ill. Still, onwards and upwards!
On that note, it really is time for me to go and have a cup of tea and another of my mum’s homemade mince pies – I defy anyone to find a better mince pie!! Then I’m going to carry on reading Dita Von Teese’s burlesque book that I got for Christmas…if we show as much dedication to our business as she does to hers, then there’s no way we can fail!
Until next time…

Hi Nikki
With regard to the Aweber thing, yes, unfortunately you will have to add your postal address. When you first sign up for Aweber you need to provide this and they will, in fact, write to you, to check that this is your address.
Apart from this, it complies with the CAN Spam laws which state that all emails should have a postal address on them. I actually think this only applies to the United States, but as Aweber is an U.S. company, there’s no way round it.
Hope this helps
Take care

Thanks for the “you-beaut” recommendation on your blog. It’s amazing isn’t it? I can tell everyone how damn good my bloody “Time in Motion” ACTION Planner e-book is and just because I am the author very FEW people take ANY notice at all. Sure, I have had 50 or so people already download the book and lots of people come over to my site and say how good it is BUT…
… as soon as the Nixter says it, I start getting people go and download it. Pop. Pop. Pop. I have had quite a few this morning and I suspect it is because of what YOU have said Nixster. So, thanks babes – even though people are getting them for zippo.
Also, I reckon all the guys will be thankful that I completely pestered you to put your pic up. Like… whoa! Hubba-hubba! Very cute Nix. Smoulderingly sultry even. LOL.
Sorry to hear you have been laid low by the ‘flu. Must be cold over there huh? Well… it’s SUNNY over here in Oz – an azure blue sky overhead, no clouds, about 85 degrees F… the birds are singing, a gentle breeze, a pina colada by the pool. Wake up Gazz-man! You’re sitting inside typing on this dopey computer.
But I am gonna go outside soon and take a dip. LOL!
Anyway Nix, you made a great post and I’m glad you liked what I said to Valerie over at Gazz-Land. I just wanted the Valster to know that just coz you make a LATE start, doesn’t mean to say that you can’t make a GREAT start – like you have.

Tommy, you seem to know everything that I keep asking! Can I just borrow your brain for a few days?! You’re welcome to have mine in exchange, though I apologise in advance for the unhealthy obsession with shopping.
RE the USB dongle thingy, I was going to see who had the best offer! I know DialAPhone.co.uk had one on an 18month contract that was only £7.50 for 10 months (then I think £15 for the rest, might have only been £10).
Finances are my major issue, so any recommendations for quality at a respectable price would be great! I think I’m right (ha!) in assuming they work on a mobile phone frequency (oh, ok, so I’m the world’s least technical person), so if I have good reception on a mobile it should mean good reception on the USB dongle?
Any thoughts?
Thanks so much for all your help!!

Hey Nikki,
I hope you are feeling better and that you get well soon.
In regards to USB dongle broadband issue in the UK (assuming it’s the wireless one?), 3GB per month is certainly not a lot considering if you start to use it for webinars
Firstly you have to consider connection speed and signal strenght I used to have one because I needed access on the mover and university hadn;t installed wifi and I wanted to use my own laptop hence I signed a contract with with Vodafone 3G network and that was pretty awful
Some places I would get 3g (Broadband speed) and some places, I would fail to even get 56k (thats really really slow) and it wasn’t chepa either at £23.50 per month and I was capped to no more than 150mb usage per month.
Next that 3GB limit? Firstly you have to ask yourself what do you do on the internet mostly, and what will you use it mostly for, if you are using it for webinars then it might be a tight squeeze and if you are using for other things as well i.e youtube, ebay etc… then you may want to upgrade to more WEB usuage.
Since joining Alex’s course, I been hitting regualrly 13-15 GB per month usuage mainly becasue I think the webinar uses anything from 750mb + to 1gb + per each session.
Plus I don’t do much either other than running ebay biz and 1 hour each day on youtube.
The decision is up to you , but I would recommend trying ot get unlimited and T-Mobile seem to get quite good reception
I hope you have a wonderful new year
Nigel
[Reply]
Hi Becky, that’s great, thank you for that. Feeling a lot better than I was, although prone to random coughing fits – usually when trying to sleep! I’ve downloaded the plugin so once I’m set up with Aweber I can get going on that.
Hi Nigel, that’s also really helpful – one of the main reasons I want to go wireless USB dongle thing is because I rent my current property, so it would be a lot easier than getting an internet service / phone service team round to drill holes in the wall & install cables etc – my landlord may not give me permission, so the USB thing seemed to be a better way around it.
Tommy, I’d be interested in your thoughts on Nigel’s comments above…the more informed I am, the more I’m likely to make a better decision!
Thanks to you all for your comments and help, it’s much appreciated.

Hi Nikki –
First time over here and, as a fellow AJ-er, you’re obviously a lady “in the loop”. Seems like nomatter how many blogs I travel I’m always behind the curve so thanks for the heads up on what’s happening.
Re Aweber, like Paula says, yes, you do need to add your postal address because they do write to you. However, I’ve never had ANY more communication from Aweber past the first letter (and I don’t remember doing anything with that, it was just the details of my account, payment details etc). There’s nothing stopping you from using ANY permanent address you visit (your mum’s?) as it is just to comply with Fed law and as you’re in the UK it’s really only so you can “save” the forms you’ve created. DON’T let this put you off Aweber
If you’re serious online you need an autoresponder. And judging by the number of people who have sent me “please reconfirm by replying to this email as I’m moving to Aweber”, it’s the one to be with.
Best of luck for 2009! So much to do!
Sx
PS Any chance you could add me to your blogroll please?

After hours of working on it, I decided to change themes. It’s really not the right color, but I don’t want to mess up something that’s actually functioning.

I’ve been furtling around at various times today and I haven’t seen BAD Gary but he may be resting in the dragon’s den at this time…
Anyway were you awake all last night? I think instead of Nikki the Nix I shall call you Minnie the Minx. (Aah the Beano – reminds me of childhood holidays the only time we were allowed comics as the rest of the year we had to have educational magazines like Look and Learn and World of Wonder…)
We have Harry with Star Wars – do we have any other characters lurking around like Dennis the Menace and Gnasher? Or the Bash Street Kids?
Anyway – glad to see you’re obviously feeling better – my cold is still lingering a little but life goes on – been making a posh dress for my daughter this evening who is going to a party on Sat and fetching my son back from an Under 18s do at the local nightclub (mum’s taxi!)
I take it you don’t have children otherwise you wouldn’t want to stay up all night and not feel tired…!
I just wanted to say thanks for these heads up on this post. As the Gazz man says we have sooo much to deal with at the moment he doesn’t want to add to our load with The Precious just yet.
I know that I am having difficulty keeping up with all the wonderful things that are going on at the moment, but I have started a spreadsheet where I am putting down which blogs I have visited, if I have left a comment or question and any useful information, so I know where to go back to. It takes a few minutes, but saves many more when I can retrace my tracks.
Don’t know anything about dongles I’m afraid, though it looks like you have plenty of help with that.
I like your piccie in your about me page – it keeps following me about on other blogs & Twitter too… I’ve managed to get a piccie of me on my site and as my gravatar and have written about me if you want to take a look.
Anyway must go and keep an eye out for that Bad Gary (look behind you!).

Hey Nikki
been reading all about you over in Gazzaland. Nice blog and strong colours
About the code in the footer, if we can think it, someone out there has already coded it…it’s just a matter of now finding it so I’d be quite relaxed about getting a fix…it’s only a matter of time.
Ont he dongle question – I’ve had one for a couple of years with voda. It’s handy when I’m out and about and I did consider it as a replacement for broadband over the BT network, but as a few people above mentioned, the download speed is wayyyy too volatile.
Some days you do get great speed and others, well, some days I don’t know how I don’t throw the laptop through the wall it’s so damn slow!!!
There are plenty of competitive packages out there for getting broadband piped thru a BT landline, the main thing to look out for as a renter (same as me) is how long the contract is for. I’ve fallen foul of paying a cancellation charge and a reconnection charge when moving flats thru not looking at the wee print. But there are other packages just as good with more flexible terms.
I pay the usual 30 notes per quarter for BT landline (which is never used for calls) and around 18 a month for the broadband which has superb consistent speed…the longer I’m online the more impatient I get with waiting for the wee icon to finish spinning!! In my world it’s worth a couple of extra quid for the consistent speed.
Dongle is very useful for being out and about though!
Hey well, better do some work. First of many messages I hope Nikki. This is a superb community we’re building here and some true characters standing up among us…
Have a great New Year’s night and a very prosperous 2009 and beyond.
Cheers,
Bernard

Secondly, I want to give you a New Year present, but you need to go to http://daybydaymarketing.com/2008/12/choose-your-new-year-present/
I would appreciate being added to your blogroll. I am happy to add you to mine when you come over.

Hi Nix,
Compliments of the season to ya.
Now I know you won’t see this for a couple of days but I just wanted you to know that BAD-Gazza has finally spoken after that night out on the tiles.
I’m still not 100% sure where he went all night but, in a really croaky voice, he mumbled something to me before he went on this titanic workout. He is working out like the maniac he is. I dunno what he is up to but he looks like he is in training for a world title fight, or something.
Anyway, I think he said:
“Tell minx (whoever that is!) to have a happy nude year.”
Yep, I swear that is what he said. Though it was kinda hard to hear. I think he may also now have the ‘flu. I wonder how he got that? Hmm.
Did that message he gave me make any sense to you?

Hi Nikki,
Great post with lots of really good info. Considering you only do this in your spare time, you are doing a great job.
I’m having the same problem with the footer on my blog. I want to install analytics but I can’t see a way to do it.
Well have a great 2009 and beyond, speak soon.
Alan…

Hi David, no probs, glad I could help!
Hey Hilary, Happy New Year to you as well. I had to laugh at your comment above:
“Just be careful of that Gazz-man though I suspect the work you did mightn’t be enough if there is a next time. I reckon he’s failing forward fast and gone off to learn from his experiences…”
Hi Valerie, nice to see you!
Gaz-Man, so he’s speaking now? That’s strange, my victims usually stay quiet for at least a week…guess he’s got good stamina!! I’ll keep an eye out in case he decides to come visiting again…think he got more than he bargained for last time!
Alan, I’ve left a message on your blog re Google Analytics and a nice easy solution
and last but most certainly not least, Tommy I’ve been over to your blog and have answered your questions in my usual rambling style!
Thanks everyone for the comments, keep them coming!

Hi Nikki,
Just a rushed note as it is late and I have a long day tomorrow. I use the Vodafone Dongle 3G £15 a month. You can certainly use it for the webinars.
I have been browsing a lot and don’t think I have gone over the 3G limit. However, they have been billing me well over £15. I think I am being charged for their SMS service, which I am not using. Have not had time to sort it out.
You may have had a more satisfactory answer by now, but if you want more info, I am another Alex Jeffreys student and also live in Bristol so we could easily chat.
Cheers,
Mat Gallaugher
